Major Investments to improve marketing efforts by cooperatives in Mali

The Ségou, Mopti, Sikasso and Koulikoro agricultural cooperatives receiving assistance under the Feere Diyara project are now equipped with new warehouse and storage facilities and machinery for conditioning and processing crops. This investment of more than CAN $3.2 million was aimed primarily at providing member families of the cooperatives with stronger services for obtaining inputs and for marketing.

It is a major challenge even today to provide enough to supply the nutritional needs of populations in the poorest countries around the world.  In Mali, hundreds of men and women farmers in the regions of Bamako-Koulikoro, Ségou, Sikasso and Mopti are organizing and professionalizing their practices with assistance from the Feere Diyara project (Success in Commercializing), an initiative run by the Alliance agricole internationale (CECI, SOCODEVI and UPA DI). The goal is food security.

Diversification of agricultural production and increased incomes in Mali

The excellent results obtained in Mali under the PCDA program for competiveness and agricultural diversification were highlighted during our recent luncheon conference celebrating International Development Week. With the presence of Christine St-Pierre, Minister for the International Relations and Minister of La Francophonie of Quebec, the event attracted 150 people in Quebec City, February 1st.
