The women and men working on farms in the Dnipropetrovsk region now have access to a modern grain elevator, the first owned by a cooperative in Ukraine. With a total capacity of 38,000 tons, this impressive installation became a reality thanks to assistance provided under a project to establish cooperatives for grain storage and marketing, an initiative overseen by SOCODEVI in collaboration with the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and IRECUS, a research and educational institute for cooperatives and mutuals at the University of Sherbrooke.

Construction of the elevator, supported financially by the Government of Canada, will significantly improve the quality of grain and, consequently, optimize marketing efforts by the farming families who will enjoy greater crop profitability.

It should be noted that the technical expertise and consulting services provided by La Coop fédérée and its network of member cooperatives were a major part of this infrastructure development. Another key factor for the success of this installation were contributions from the Zernovyi Cooperative, which owns the elevator, and the Gospodar Union of Cooperatives.

A demonstration dairy farm
The Molocharske demonstration dairy farm, also located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, has been expanded with construction of a new barn for a herd of 60 Jersey dairy cows. Built in full accordance with the best practices and technology for dairy production, this farm now has a total capacity of 120 animals.

In addition to producing top quality milk, the demonstration farm is also a unique training centre in Ukraine. Women and men dairy producers in the region’s cooperatives have access to technical training related to all aspects of dairy production.

The Molocharske demonstration farm, set up under SOCODEVI’s support for the dairy sector in Ukraine thanks to financing from the Government of Canada, highlights the wide-ranging expertise provided by the Agropur Cooperative for SOCODEVI activities in that country.
