Sustainable organizations benefiting women in Senegal
During a recent visit to Senegal, we had the chance to meet with former SOCODEVI partners, the Kolda women’s savings and credit mutual and the Ziguinchor regional union of women cooperative members. After being assisted by SOCODEVI, these organizations have continued to expand their efforts to help thousands of their member women and their families!
The Kolda women’s savings and credit mutual was set up in 2011 and received support from SOCODEVI during its initial five years of operations. Today this mutual has more than 5,800 members and a growing portfolio of deposits and productive loans designed to meet the needs of the members. It is now seeking to expand its services and outreach. It is a terrific success story!
The Ziguinchor regional union of women cooperative members supported by SOCODEVI from 2007 to 2012 now has more than 1200 women members including 200 young women working in economic interest groups. The organization has carried out income-generating activities such as soap production and dried mango production, a popular treat.
Congratulations to these two organizations!
