New project in Guatemala: women and youth at the heart of sustainable economic growth

A key partner country in the SOCODEVI story, Guatemala is the most populated nation in Central America but also the one with the highest rates of poverty, especially in rural areas. In some regions, 80% of the population lives in poverty despite significant economic potential. Furthermore, the exclusion of women and their confinement to informal sectors of the economy only makes the situation worse.

Over the next five years, SOCODEVI will lend its experience and expertise to improve the living conditions of thousands of people in the Alta Verapaz region, the most disadvantaged in the country. This work is part of CRECER, a new project supported financially by the Government of Canada.

Promising results for agricultural financing and insurance in Haiti

HuarmeyCoop: What’s the story behind the name?

Régis Goulet: “HuarmeyCoop is a cooperative located in the Huarmey-Culebras valley, a coastal area in the Ancash region of Peru. It’s an agricultural zone with a rich diversity of products grown in sandy soil. One such product is the asparagus produced by the member families of the cooperative, which is an organization supported by SOCODEVI. Today, HuarmeyCoop is gradually becoming a model agricultural cooperative for the whole country.”

SOCODEVI and the CQCH return to Senegal to improve access to housing

Starting in 2019, SOCODEVI and the Confédération québécoise des coopératives d’habitation (CQCH) will work together in Senegal to help improve access to decent cooperative housing for families. This is a return to the country for the two organizations, as they have both supported the Thiès regional union for housing and construction cooperatives (URCCHT) in the past.

Development Program for Inclusive and Sustainable Model Cooperatives (PROCED)

SOCODEVI increases its presence in Africa with the launch of the Development Program for Inclusive and Sustainable Model Cooperatives (PROCED). To be deployed in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal, the initiative will enable SOCODEVI to improve the living conditions of 8,000 families.
